Directions to the Miracle Race Course & Kernville

From Los Angeles (LAX) to Bakersfield

Take Hwy 405 north (signs will say "Sacramento"). At the north end of the San Fernando Valley, it will merge with Hwy 5. Take Hwy 5 north to the San Joaquin Valley (signs still say "Sacramento"). where it SPLITS into two Highways: Hwy 5 and Hwy 99. Take Hwy 99 - Bakersfield.  There is a sign for the Hwy 178 turnoff (want to go east).  LAX to Bakersfield is approximately 2 hours.

Directions from Bakersfield:

Travel east on Hwy 178, through the Kern Canyon. Follow signs to Lake Isabella.

The Miracle Hot Springs race course is located approximately 45 minutes east of Bakersfield on Highway 178. Going east on 178, turn right on Borel Rd., then right again at the stop sign at Old Kern Canyon Rd. Follow Old Kern Canyon Road past Sandy Flat Campground to Miracle Hot Springs and Hobo Campground.

To go to Kernville, instead of turning right on Borel Rd., continue east on Hwy 178 and look for the offramp that says "Lake Isabella/Kernville"  (Not just "Lake Isabella", that one is the wrong one).  Turn left onto Hwy 155, heading north. Travel approximately 10 miles (go past Wofford Heights), to Kernville. As you drive into Kernville, you’ll see the North Fork Kern River on your right.

From Eastern locations (east of Lake Isabella)

From Hwy 14 or U.S. 395 drive west on Hwy 178, Walker Pass Road. Continue west over Walker Pass, past Onyx and Weldon. About 1.5 to 2 miles beyond Weldon look for a right hand turn marked “Kernville.” The is Sierra Ave., which becomes Sierra Way. Turn right. Shortly after leaving Hwy 178 you should cross the South Fork of the Kern River. This road works its way around Lake Isabella to Kernville.

To go to the Miracle Hot Springs race course, instead of turning right on Sierra Ave., continue west on Hwy 178 past the Lake Isabella area, to Borel Rd. Turn left on to Borel Rd., then right again at the stop sign at Old Kern Canyon Rd. Follow Old Kern Canyon Road past Sandy Flat Campground to Miracle Hot Springs and Hobo Campground.
